REACH Conference
REACH HOUSING AFFORDABILITY AND RESILIENCY CONFERENCE
In 2020, the Tampa Bay RPC received a grant from JP Morgan Chase Foundation to develop new resources to enable local governments to more easily, rapidly conduct sea level rise and flood vulnerability assessments for affordable housing and identify hot spots, and support the integration of resilience planning and housing planning. Other local governments have looked at new practices for integrating resilience and housing planning
In the past two years, many cities and counties in the region have set goals and are working to increase housing construction. Others are updating zoning policies to increase opportunities for targeted development.
Numerous studies show that many homes and neighborhoods are at risk to storms, flooding, and future sea level rise. Building resilient, sustainable new housing and strengthening and repairing existing affordable housing is crucial. How can local governments better plan and invest to make our communities more resilient?
These are some of the big issues that were discussed at the REACH Housing conference coordinated by the TBRPC and partners ULI Tampa Bay, Forward Pinellas, and the Florida Housing Coalition.
